The following is an e-mail recently sent out by Councillor Leonore Foster today:

Planning Committee Public Meeting - Tree By-Law

November 17, 6.30pm, Council Chambers, City Hall

The Planning Committee is hosting a public meeting on the proposed Tree By-Law (attached). There have been several public meetings prior to this one and, as a result, the initial by-law was revised; this is your chance to have your say on the revised by-law.

The Tree By-law was introduced as a result of public outcry about extensive tree cutting by developers in all areas of the City. In Pittsburgh, residents were extremely upset when a developer cut down trees before the next phase of a subdivision on Hwy 15.

Currently, there is an outcry from residents who live on Hwy 2, where a developer is carrying out extensive and intensive tree cutting before the Tree By-law is considered by Council. Residents have asked me the extent of the cut. I have no personal photographs, however, some residents who live in the neighbourhood have taken aerial photographs and photographs on the ground. Some of these photographs may be viewed on the residents' website:

(http://home.cogeco.ca/~clearcut.kingston/Clearcut-Kingston.htm)Unless there is a Tree By-law in place, there is nothing the City can do to stop the cutting of trees and the clear cutting of trees on private lands. The public meeting is your opportunity to give your input on the Tree By-law, either for or against, before it comes to Council.

If you cannot attend the public meeting, your comments will be accepted by email or in writing until November 30, 2005. Contact:
