This refrain may sound all too familiar to Kingstonians today:
"The old graveyard on Ordnance street is still in the disgraceful condition so often remarked. The whole thing is an eyesore and a disgrace to the city. The Council should either have it restored or done away with. Certainly from an aesthetic point of view, the place does not offer a cheerful prospect to the people of the neighbourhood. If it were on King street instead of Ordnance street it would not be tolerated for a day . . .
"

One could say that some municipal issues have changed very little in the last 110 years.
There's nothing wrong with that park. They're spending all sorts of money on it, actually.
Have you ventured out of the North End lately? Have you looked at the hideousness that is the fountain right in front of City Hall? ugh.

Its certainly true that 'Skelton Park' has been kept in reasonable shape in recent years. The proposed enhancements to the park sound like they will respect the nature and history of this park.
But one could almost argue that this is merely a reflection of the gentrification of this area of the city.
A better example of north / south maintenance services is the Memorial Centre and grounds. This municipal recreational area and buildings have been poorly maintained and cared for in recent years.
You could not say the same for parks south of Princess Street (even if you don't like the fountain design!). No one at City Hall would dream of suggsting that City Park or the park in front of City Hall be left poorly maintained or sold. But that is exactly what the LVEC proponents are suggesting for the Memorial Centre and recreational grounds.
I wasn't referring to the design of the fountain, rather the mucky, scummy water that is in it. I don't think it is being properly maintained. They have also removd garbage cans from around my area - cans that were regularly used - and I don't live in the North End.
You are right about the M centre though. That place looks just like a section of Havana, Cuba. (Except in Cuba they are using the grounds for a market, which is nice.)

A market at the M Centre??
That would be a nice way to use the proerty more frequently than what they are doing with it now...
Of course those cranky market vendors would scream bloody blue murder if anyone suggested it... I bet they would do kick a$$ business there too...

Hey folks, Are you aware that This City Council has decided that Property by-laws should NOT be important to update for the City as a whole at this time.
Apparently, there was a committee to harmonize by-laws for the city, oh maybe a year or two ago. I was told yesterday that This Council didn't THINK it was important enough to continue with that committee's view points and progress.
If that is so, then I wonder how many more places will have graffitti and the places not maintained.
