Is there any real need to move the Memorial Centre in light of the other pressing infrastructure maintenance and replacement costs in Kingston?
Why can't we simply fix and maintain what we already have in the way of buildings and equipment at the Memorial Centre?
:)
I agree......far too many important things to do than an arena. We the citizens have already put alot of cash into the m-centre. why would we waste it?
But the people would rather see us waste so that they have a reason to complain

To Whom It May Concern:
I think the Memorial Centre should be moved to McAdoo Lanes where the horse track is. It would be better cause more parking, residences wouldn't complain about the nosie when there is a concert or the fair and also it would be close to Fun World and Drive-in, bring business for everyone. Also it would be good to bring horse racing back to Kingston with the tel-betting, revenue back into the Centre and Kingston. It would also create more jobs for the community.
Thanks

The Kingston 2000 study - which as you will remember - included an arena complex - rejected a site at the 401 because of the need for major infrastructure inpprovements - access, egress etc, for which the city would be totally responsible - In the Macadoo site this would also have to include sewer and water extension.Entending sewers and water would be worth while IF there were the possibility of major residential construction in the area. This is unlikely at Division and 401.

Every potential site could be viewed not only for its suitability for the Memorial Centre but also for what is the BEST use for the site. One could argue that the best use of the current site is residential. This is a residential neighbourhood after all - suitable perhaps for a mix, including the swimming pool and perhaps the Hockey Hall of Fame ( if we can't find a better place for it.)

The article in Saturday's Whig seems to indicate that only two sites are being considered - downtown and 401. Does anyone know why the present site has ben rejected?

I sure the hell hope it isn't down town. Who would want to go there if there isn't any parking. Who would want to go there and spend a fortune on parking anyway?
It has to be 401. The only thing that makes it suitable for people from all over the Province, not only the residents of Kingston.

The Accommodations Committee thinks it's a great idea to relocate 1,500 municipal employees to some prime downtown space. ;)

GREAT I think everyone on that Committee should be FORCED TO BE RELOCATED but not to Kingston. An when they Go the 1,500 employees should stay. :D :D

Remember that City workers would park during the day and event attendees would most likely park in the evenings and on weekends.

For municipal employees, that would be ok if there was parking spaces available to accommodate an additional 1,200+ people in the downtown.
As for locating the LVEC downtown area, it would all depend on what the ultimate purpose of the centre will be. So long as my tax dollars aren't going to be used for it (which they will I am afraid), then I could frankly care the less where it is located.
Unfortunately, I think the committee is being too short sighted and not taking into account recommendations that an additional 3 ice surfaces will be required. Why build one ice pad when there are efficiencies to be gained from building a site that can be expanded?
Then again, if rinks are such a hot commodity, why aren't the Springers building one themselves?

Canada Lands Company, a Canadian crown corporation disposes of surplus strategic federal properties. Why don't we consider P4W as an ideal location for a large venue entertainment centre?
Canada Land Company will have to improve that sight, eventually! Maybe part of the cost, can be passed on to the feds.

Perhaps the answer as to where the LVEC would be located could have been found back in 2003 when a campaigning Rosen said:
"In addition to the Block D site, there are many other opportunities in waterfront development and revitalization as well."
Now that the report has been released, it will be interesting to see the reaction from Councillors, citizens, and the various special interest groups.
I look forward to additional discussion on the LVEC as soon as others have a chance to read through the 30+ page report.
Cheers, Derek
