Memorial Centre Task Force Struck

The special task force created by Kingston Mayor Harvey Rosen to explore the development of a replacement for the aging Memorial Centre held its first meeting on December 19th.

In his December 2nd inaugural address, Kingston Mayor Rosen said that one of his goals was to have "a shovel in the ground" for a new Memorial Centre before the end of the current council term.

The Mayor's Task Force on a possible new Large Venue Entertainment Centre (LVEC) for the City of Kingston is now seeking advice from local residents and user groups in an effort to complete its recommendations by April of 2004.

Mayor Rosen said he would ask the task force "to have recommendations on the purposes, site, and financing for a new Memorial Centre back to Council within 100 days."

The task force is chaired by Councillor Leonore Foster and includes community representatives Joe de Mora (KGH), Mike Gillis, Martin Skolnick and Ken Wong (Queen's).
