Concerned about downtown-please spread the word
Hi everyone,
I wanted to let you all know about DARN! (Downtown Action Revitalization Network); we are local group which is promoting and advocating for a liveable downtown. Our vision is for a vibrant downtown that welcomes residents and visitors…everyone. We seek to foster an inclusive sense of community and commerce, a walkable and bike friendly place where all of us can share a sense of belonging.
Some of D.A.R.N.’s ideas to promote a more vital downtown include a shop downtown pledge (for a week, a month, etc.); a “where to buy” pamphlet featuring what is available downtown; a website and blog with interesting stories/articles/info about downtown Kingston. We will be launching our website at the Skeleton Park Music Festival- come check out our table and see how you can get involved.
More immediately, I have attached a poster (see links below) about our first community action that we are planning for Saturday, June 26th from 1-3 pm. Please come out and support Vandervoorts by buying something at the store- it can be a tea towel, a nail, a pair of socks. The item is not so important as is the action. We want to make a strong statement that we support our local businesses and that we are concerned with the present state of our downtown. Please spread the word because the more people we have the stronger statement we will be able to make.
