The Wee Corner Store has recently been given a 30 day notice to vacate. It is asking for the neighbourhood's support, most immediately in the form of signatures on a petition to its landlord -- the Store is hoping to negotiate a lease that will be attractive to both it and the landlord. You can find the petition at the Store.
The Wee Corner Store, as well as selling corner store items including fair trade coffee, has a program called Self Help to Recovery which is an organization aiding people with disabilities by providing support programs and employment opportunities.
There is a daily drop in centre in the store which provides a healthy affordable meal each day, computer and internet access and support programs, offering support and socialization to individuals who may be experiencing loneliness.
The store operates a gardening business offering lawncare and gardening services to seniors at an affordable rate, providing employment for six individuals at a rate above minimum wage. In all, Self Help to Recovery provides over 30 individuals on disability with employment opportunities. Check out Self Help to recovery by looking at their website,
