Collins Bay-Bayridge District Update - November 2009
Fri, 6 Nov 2009

Hi everyone. Just a reminder to get the leaves to the curb in paper bags for pick up starting Monday November 16th !

1) Hudson Drive and Downing St.

a. A Four Way stop sign will be installed at Hudson Drive and Downing St. It was passed at Council this past week and it will go in the ground very shortly in November.

2) Hudson Drive near Mona – the ditches

a. Staff acknowledge that the September rainstorms washed away much of the grass seed that was sprayed days before a torrential downpour. The grass seed will be reapplied in the spring. Public works say that the depth of the ditches was raised with drainage tile that was then covered with stone and then soil. Thank you to the Hudson Drive residents for your patience as staff have tried to remedy the steep ditches.

3) Elmwood Subdivison

a. The section of Southwood from Farliegh to Homeward will not be completed this year. We had hoped to be able to complete this section in 2009 but the storm work on Maple Ridge turned out to take more time than the contractor anticipated.

b. The potholes on Southwood will be filled in the next two weeks.

c. Paving is currently scheduled for late in the week of Nov 16th, weather permitting.

4) Train Whistle Night-time Ban ****** Very Important

a. Meeting on Tuesday November 10th – 5pm Council Chambers, 2nd floor at City Hall

b. The Staff report on the CN Safety Audit Update is on the agenda and staff are NOT recommending a night-time ban of the train whistle. The committee needs to hear from you that you WANT a train whistle ban or else they will agree with the staff recommendation that no action be taken.

c. If you cannot attend but want to send the committee an email stating your opinion, you can email the Committee Clerk at jamini@cityofkingston.ca

d. If you want to speak as a delegate (you will have up to 5 minutes to present your views), you can also contact the Committee Clerk.

e. You will be allowed to ask questions and to state your opinion at the public meeting starting at 5pm following the questions from the committee to the staff.

5) Bayshore Subdivision has a new playground that should have been created in 1986, but never was when the subdivision was first built. Now our district has one more playground. The Lake Ontario Park concept plan will include a Splash Pad and that will be the closest splash pad to the west end. I will be supporting the motion currently at council to lift the summer daytime sprinkler ban for children. Not everyone in the west end has a pool nor can be expected to drive their children towards the downtown to a splash pad during a heat wave.

6) The closest off-leash dog park to the west end is Rotary Park.

7) Santa Claus Parade – Saturday November 21st

8) If you Need a Family Doctor

a. 1-800-445-1822 or http://www.ontario.ca/healthcareconnect

b. You can only use the website if you currently DO NOT have a family doctor. You can use the 1-800 number also.

c. You can only use the 1-800 number if you want to find another family doctor. The website will not work for you.
