Several Municipal Committees Seek Members
The Deadline For Applications Is Friday, Feb. 6, 2009
A number of City of Kingston municipal committees are seeking members of the public for term appointments. Citizens interested in applying for these committees must submit an Application for Appointment by Friday, Feb. 6, 2009.
To be eligible to serve on a committee, applicants must be 18 years of age or older; reside in the municipality, or be an owner, tenant of land (or spouse of same); not be prohibited from voting, and be a Canadian citizen. Current committee members are eligible to apply.
Committees seeking members for term appointments from March 3 to Nov. 30, 2009 are:
* Affordable Housing Development Committee - builds capacity for adequate,
affordable and accessible housing that enhances quality of life for all
citizens and reflects their diverse needs.
* Arts Advisory Committee - an avenue of communication and consultation
between the arts community and the municipal government advising city
staff and Council on arts and related issues.
* Citizen Committee to Review Council Remuneration - reviews future
compensation for the Mayor and Members of Council and reports results
for Council consideration.
* Lemoine Point, Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority Advisory Committee
- advises the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority regarding Lemoine Point.
* Kingston Community Memorial Centre Advisory Committee - advises city staff
on matters relating to the Kingston Community Memorial Centre.
* MacLachlan Woodworking Museum Committee - advises Council and staff
regarding the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum.
* Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee - advises Council about the
annual Accessibility Plan; certain site plans and drawings; and other
accessibility issues including information, technology, public relations
and civil engineering. The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities
Act requires that a majority of members be individuals with disabilities.
* Taxi Commission, Licenses - regulates and governs owners, drivers and
brokers of taxi cabs.
The Nominations Committee will submit recommendations to City Council for final approval and Council will consider Committee appointments on Tuesday, March 3. All applications must be received by Friday, Feb. 6.
