The City's Planning Committee will host four public open houses to receive feedback on the Fall 2008 Draft Official Plan prepared by the City intended to guide the use of land in Kingston until 2026.
Residents are invited to review the Plan at the following open houses:
- Jan. 26 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Hall, City Hall, 216 Ontario St.;
- Jan. 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Glenburnie Fire Hall, Station No. 8, 1485 Unity Road;

The draft Official Plan is available for review and comment online at <http://www.cityofkingston.ca/officialplan>. Hard copies of this document are available at all local branches of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library (Central, Isabel Turner and Pittsburgh branches), the Planning and Development Department located at 1211 John Counter Boulevard, and at City Hall.
The City has been governed by three Official Plans - one covering each of the areas prior to amalgamation in 1998 (City of Kingston, Township of Kingston and Pittsburgh Township). These plans remain in effect until a new one is finalized, adopted by City Council and approved by the Provincial Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, subject to any possible appeals.
This Fall 2008 Draft Official Plan, reflects input from public consultation undertaken in 2008. Last year, there were four public meetings, and various meetings held by staff with groups and members of the public. This draft also incorporates comments from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and partner ministries, comments from internal and external technical agencies, and comments from City Council and the public. As well, staff also made revisions to reflect a number of reports regarding topics such as the Urban Growth Strategy and residential intensification targets.
Comments on the Fall 2008 Draft Official Plan are requested by Friday, Feb. 27, at opzb_update@cityofkingston.ca, by phone at 613-546-4291, ext. 3193, in-person at 1211 John Counter Boulevard, or by mail at Planning and Development Department, City of Kingston, 216 Ontario St., Kingston, ON., K7L 2Z3.
