Hello everyone!

Thank you Lydia for the introduction. I hope everyone had a great holiday. This months meeting is on January 18,2009. I have spoken to Rob about the agenda for this months meeting. We will be discussing traffic calming measures in our district (we get 2 Streets), infrastructure investment and renewal for our city. We also would like to talk about the association itself . What do we want to focus on this year? expanding our membership, increasing the associations visibility, what do the member want to see on the agendas?

I have also contacted Councillor Foster in regards to the petition that her district is trying to fill out in regards to Canada Post. She was kind enough to forward me a copy of that. As well I have received a copy of the No Frills Closing on Bagot Street petition. I will be bringing them along to the meeting in case anyone would like to sign them. I realize that these do not have anything directly to do with our district but they affect the city as a whole. If anyone knows of petitions in our district or the city as a whole that our members may want to sign please let me know. I will try to get copies.

Look forward to this months meeting look forward to seeing you all there

Sincerely
Shannon Pester, Chairperson

Although we may not live in Pittsburg District, don't think that the issue addressed in the following petition can't affect you. It can and has already affected other districts in this city.

Canada Post chooses to put up the price of postage at the same time delete service. So Please feel free to COPY this petition on to a Word Document, sign it and if possible get others to sign it as well and send it to Leonore Foster. Council Office, at City Hall.

Just imagine, what you would do if you were in this position as the people who have to travel 20 kilometers to a post office to get regular mail and you were the elderly.

Let us as a CITY show that what affects a part of our city affects us as a WHOLE.

Here is the petition;

PETITION REQUESTING REINSTATEMENT OF FULL POSTAL SERVICES TO RESIDENTS OF PITTSBURGH DISTRICT

Residents of Pittsburgh have received notification that after December 31, parcels and any mail requiring a signature will have to be picked up in the Kingslake Plaza on Division Street, an approximately 20km round trip from the current location on Gore Road. This is a complete elimination of services that have already been curtailed significantly for a number of years by the lack of a full service postal outlet in the area of Kingston east of the Cataraqui River. This move on the part of Canada Post involves not only personal inconvenience, especially for the large number of senior citizens who live in Pittsburgh and do not own a car, but also fails to recognize the environmental consequences as a result of residents having to drive or be driven to and from the new distant pickup location.

We, the residents of Pittsburgh in the City of Kingston, wish to register our objection to the gradual elimination of postal services over the last five years for the over 10,000 people living here. We request the restoration of a full service postal outlet in Pittsburgh, consistent with Canada Post’s stated commitment to provide “the best possible postal service” to Canadians:
