Collins-Bayridge Update from Councillor Lisa Osanic
August 5, 2008
Hi everyone. Hope your summer has been a good one so far. Here are some updates from the district and city hall:
1) Traffic Calming proposal for Hudson Drive -This Wednesday Aug 6th from 5-8pm at the Invista Centre (Multiplex on Gardiners Road) in the Rona Room, there will be a presentation on the traffic calming proposal for Hudson Drive (between Mona Drive and Bayridge Public School) as well as the four other sites across the city.
2) CNR Train Whistle –At Environment, Transportation Committee on Aug 14, again at the Invista Centre, the CN Report on how Kingston is complying with the Railway Safety Act is planning to be presented. This is the first step towards a whistle ban. Kingston must first comply with the Safety Act to proceed any further. I will let you know the details for the meeting when the agenda is out this Friday. I will send a short email with the details.
3) High Gate Creek Rehabilitation –The Conservation Authority is surveying the creek between Prince Charles and Hillview Road this summer and the projected costs will be brought tocouncil for the 2009 budget talks. The creek will be dredged so that it no longer floods the backyards along Centre St.
4) BMX Bike Festival Aug 30-Sept 7 – WoodbinePark will host a world-class BMX Bike Event. www.kingstonbikefestival.com (http://www.kingstonbikefestival.com/)
5) North America Police Equestrian Championship and RCMP Musical Ride Sept 20 –Fort Henry. If you weren’t able to catch the RCMP Musical Ride in July, they return on Sept 20 at Fort Henry.
6) Elmwood Subdivision Sewer Petition – letters are being mailed to Elmwood residents this week. The sewer petition did not meet the 50% requirement to proceed. The details are in the letter. However, the water main, culvert repair, and road surfacing will still occur during the summers of 2009 and 2010.
7) Kingston Transit to service the Bayridge area – There is a Kingston Transit Service Review being conducted right now. I have put in a request for the Bayridge area to be better served than just 1 route along Hudson Drive.Mini-buses are used right now– not a full size bus. I have asked for a route to serve the Lincoln, Sussex, Fleetarea. If you are in support of that, please send me your comments. A few residents have asked for better service.
8) Would you like a all-residents meeting in September? Do you know of a suitable location? I could try Edith Rankin Church’s community room or Collins Bay Public School. I could try for a Tuesday or Wednesday nightnearthe end of September from 7-9pm. Would you be interested?
9) Emails these past two months or so: I thought I would tell you what issues I’ve been receiving via phone calls and emails recently. Ranked in almost the order of quantity:
i) Official Plan (because public comments were due June 13 and thank you for everyone who submitted comments)
ii) Bike lanes
iii) New Aquatic Centre (new council meeting re: priority projects will continue)
iv) Potholes, conditions of roads
v) Soccer (lack of facilities)
vi) Street Hockey (will be at Council for final decision Aug 12)
vii) Transit
viii) Bylaw complaints
Enjoy the rest of your summer.
