-- Kingston Electors

Moved by Councillor Hutchison
Seconded by Councillor MacLeod-Kane

WHEREAS City Council will be considering the operating budget and capital and debt scheduling implications of current and proposed capital expenditures at their Council Priority Setting Session on July 29, 2008; and,

WHEREAS it will be very difficult to accommodate all proposed capital spending under the preliminary capital spending schedule presented by staff to Council on June 17, 2008; and,

WHEREAS the proposal for the building of a municipal aquatics centre with a 50 metre pool is projected at between about $19 million and $28.5 million;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT staff be requested to report back to Council in time for the Council Priority Setting Session on July 29, 2008, on the financial and logistical implications of building a 25 metre Myrtha modular technology pool

(a) to be housed in a building capable of being expanded in the future to accommodate a 50 metre pool;
(b) with and without the additional features requested by Council under the 50 metre pool proposal;
(c) and if located at or not located at the Invista Centre (to account for potential savings from building-to-building heat transfer, staffing requirements, etc.).
