Kingston City Council will consider the following two roads budget motions at its meeting to be held on April 15, 2008.

(1) Moved by Councillor Schmolka
Seconded by Councillor Osanic
WHEREAS the provincial government has provided an unexpected $2,333,251 for infrastructure work; and,
WHEREAS this provides a welcome opportunity to address urgent needs and to implement Council-approved policies in the Transportation Master Plan;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT staff be directed to bring to the Council meeting on May 20, 2008, a
recommendation on how to allocate these funds to address the following priorities:
1) repair of existing roads;
2) sidewalk reconstruction and new sidewalk construction; and,
3) off-road cycling routes to connect multi-use trails, following the recommendations in the Cycling and
Pathways Study;
- and further -
THAT at least one-third of the funds be allocated to item 2) sidewalks and item 3) off-road cycling routes.

WHEREAS the Ontario Government has announced over $10 million of funding for improving roads, bridges and
sewers in Kingston; and,
WHEREAS improving our roads is important to allow families and goods to get where they need to go quickly and efficiently; and,
WHEREAS important agricultural and commercial products and farm families move along the roads in the Rural Districts; and,
WHEREAS there are few sewers to service in the Rural Districts;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT staff be directed to set aside a minimum of $1,000,000 from the Ontario
Government funding to refurbish and maintain the roads in the Rural Districts.
