Community Roundtable on Poverty
Invitation for Participation
The Mayor’s Task Force on Poverty will convene a community-based permanent Roundtable on Poverty Reduction. It is anticipated that the Roundtable will operate under a non-profit organization and will serve in a planning and advisory capacity on poverty-related issues in the community. Its role is expected to include research, establishment of poverty reduction targets, promotion and coordination of related initiatives, and monitoring of progress toward targets.
The Task Force seeks applications and nominations for up to 24 Roundtable members from varied backgrounds and experience who share a passion, commitment and aptitude for making a difference in the community.
Appointments to the Roundtable will be for a one, two, or three-year term.
Have you experience poverty in this community? You could be one of six people who have experienced poverty and who will ground the Roundtable’s discussions in reality.
Are you part of the service delivery community? You could be one of six people who can speak to the experience of those who serve people who are living in poverty in our community.
Are you an agent of change? You could be one of 12 community leaders and champions whose vision, commitment and influence are noted for making a difference in this community.
As a group, the Roundtable will reflect the following qualities:
- Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience of community needs as related to poverty issues
- Detailed knowledge and/or experience of local services and programs
- Background in exploring issues
- Comfort in working with varied information, ranging from ideas through budgets and numbers
- Confidence and credibility in representing varied interests in a community-based committee environment
- Leadership, independent thought, and a willingness to consider risk
- Excellent one-on-one communications skills and strong community networking abilities
Applications and nominations to the Roundtable will be accepted prior to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 21, 2007.
