City Council will consider the following resolution at the City Council meeting to be held on July 24, 2007:

Moved by Councillor Hector
Seconded by Councillor Glover

WHEREAS in June 2007 Council has indicated that the promotion of neighbourhoods, quality of life enhancing activities and social consciousness are key principles for the city; and

WHEREAS residential areas of Reddendale and Henderson Place within Lakeside District are linked by a cluster of businesses, sports facilities, schools, churches, a medical clinic, and seniors residences, among others, which over the years have integrated and built upon each other’s presence into a unique and thriving neighbourhood; and

WHEREAS Canada Post has decided to close its Postal Counter in the Reddendale Plaza, which has offered a critical service to the citizens and businesses and in closing threatens to erode the quality of life of the neighbourhood, thus prompting a petition of over 1565 signatures almost exclusively from the neighbourhood residents;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City of Kingston is in support of the citizens of the Reddendale and Henderson Place neighbourhood within Lakeside District in their efforts to retain a Postal Counter in the Reddendale Plaza;

AND FURTHER that a copy of this Council resolution be sent to Canada Post and MP for Kingston and the Islands.
