Doug Fleur Park in the Inner Harbour area behind Rideaucrest.
There are three tree dedication plaques, but no trees! Further along the old railway, past the park, the right of way parallel to Rideau Street seems to have become a handy dumping ground.

http://kingstonelectors.ca/forums/images/icons/icon8.gif Well - little success to report here. Needs fixing first emailed the person responsible with the information re: some of our neglected park areas. After 10 days with no response, the email was printed off, put in an addressed envelope, and hand delivered to City Hall. Still no response so the next move is to set up an appointment to meet with the person concerned. Given the experience to date perhaps it is not surprising that there seems to be insufficient attention paid to maintaining our parks (?).
Wish me luck!

There is no excuse for this kind of neglect. Keep it up. One wonders where to Councillor for this area is. Too busy perhaps?

NeedsFixing did a bit of a bicycle trip yesterday to check out a couple of items that 'needed fixing'. We are happy to report that:
* good sized trees have been planted to replace the missing memorial trees in Doug Fluhrer Park
* a forest of smaller trees has been planted along the water's edge of D. Fluhrer Park - must be well over 100 trees there. Admittedly, they are very small and many will not survive but even if at least half of them do, it will be quite a sight in 10 years or so.
* we stopped when cycling on the old railway line to see men working on clearing trash! What a joy to see this happening. There was a pickup truck to take the non-burnablesto the dump which must have had to make several trips. Now to close off vehicle access (although some trash quite clearly has been dumped from properties above) to any future 'dumpers'.
Kudos to the city for all of the good works above; much overdue, and much appreciated.

Now if you could do something about the quality of the water we would support you for sainthood.

Readers will recall our jublilation when trees were replaced in D. Fluhrer Park, and we noted that a small plantation had been added right along the water's edge.
Regrettably, we have to report that a large number of these finger sized saplings have been cut off - not a civil response to the effort. Because these saplings were oaks, most would not have survived in such crowded conditions - I suspect the vandals don't know that so we can only hope that the ones left make it.
We will keep watching to see what happens here. Discouraging to say the least.

well, how are the remaining "treelets" as you put it surviving the winter?

Quite a few have survived, and if these are not damaged there should be a fair forest in 15 years! We would have been much better off if a half-dozen good sized trees were planted instead of the 100 or so treelets. With the future of that area still uncertain, it is not clear what might take place next, with what impact on the treelets.
