Since the city seems to have funds for a new LVEC, a multiplex and now a new trail over the old K & P rail line why can't we maintain our existing parks?
The picnic tables and other park equipment seems to go a very long time between a coat of paint or other routine maintenance.

I understand your budget argument
Its a very good point. Although hard to compare...apples to no plan.
I can also see though alot of abuse by the general public to the trees, benches, play equipment and general grounds.
I would have hoped that yes some equipment would be replaced.
But, maybe we should start with a plan before we do anything to all the parks.
Such as the LVEC, Multiplex and K&P already have and had. They (the 3 latter projects) are also investments that have a return on investment - to maintain them for the long term. The parks have never had this and likely is a great deal of money considering that there are several dozen parks, and communities that would likely not wish to be ignored in the plan / or public money pot. And likely our taxes would go up to cover such a annual million dollar budget!

I think that the evidence is clear that the way to avoid valdalism is to rapidly replace the valdalised items. "Needs Fixing ' is this the attitude of the Parks Department?

Our 'staff' (volunteer) went on a tour of the area, confirmed your finding, and found two others in the area. The first is the tree dedication plaques - but with no trees! There WERE trees. What happened to them? Why has the City not replaced them? The second item is the disgusting state of the old RR line which parallels Rideau St. Some folks are using it as a personal dump zone. This could/should be a lovely urban trail site in our north end, a real treasure for the city.
We are asking the Director of Public Works to investigate these items, and get back to us. We will post the response when we get it.

Every Spring and fall, Old Colony Park gets flooded out on the path way in and out of the park. The grading of the walkway is deplorable. Check it out and see what I mean. People can't walk the entire pathway because the drainage isn't working the way it should. I don't use cameras but if anyone does please submit a picture.
Everytime it rains in the spring or fall this place gets flooded. I feel very sorry for the people whose home backs on the park.

Old Colony Park is located of Cresthill and Old Colony Road.
If you are traveling West along Princess Street, you will come towards Gardiners Road. The second stop light west of Gardiners is Bayridge. Turn Left onto Bayridge. The First stop light on Bayridge is Old Colony Road. Turn Left. The First stop SIGN is at the entrance to Old Colony Park. It is about a 2 to 3 minute walk into the park and you will see a walkway that goes throught the park. If you continue on your way you will actually come out on Milfred. It is at the other end that all the flooding occurs. It gets so bad in the spring when the snow starts to melt that people really should not walk there.

Thanks Needsfixing, I for one appreciate it. To truly understand how bad conditions get over there, it is best to see it just after a rain. However, the mud along the path way will indicate the problem that occurs.
I am not affected by it except when i walk my dog, but children use that park. People in the apartments also like to walk throught the park.

Correction: "If you continue on your way you will actually come out on Milfred" that should read Milford.
And last night would have been a good night to try and enter the park from Milford, I opted not to.
