Kick-off Event for Brand-new Arts Venue to Open in Downtown Kingston
Thursday May 18 at 5:00pm
A group of local artists are launching a brand new cultural initiative that promises to become one of the most exciting arts hubs in the city. With the organizational support of Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre and a long-term lease negotiated with Keystone Property Management, the old limestone house at the corner of Queen and Sydenham Streets will be a residence for emerging and established artists. The house includes private bedroom studios and a 450-square-foot public presentation and gallery space. With exhibitions lasting approximately two weeks and ongoing concerts, events, release parties and other arts activities happening regularly, this intimate venue can hold approximately 60-100 people, and promises to become a staging ground for the most diverse programming possible.
Thursday May 18th at 5 pm will see an open house/barbecue launch to introduce the space to the community and to mark the start of the premier exhibition showcasing the works of the first group of artists who will call the art house home. This exhibition, In-House will run from May 18th-June 4th and will feature works by Lisa Visser, Jessica Rovito, Rebecca Soudant, Matt Kicul, Stefan Duerst, and Irina Skvortsova.
Reasonable Space Rental rates available to artists wishing to exhibit their work and to groups and individuals wishing to hold events, shows, presentations, rehearsals etc. Opportunities to volunteer in exchange for discounts on space rental for emerging artists.
Location: 205 Sydenham Street, Kingston, Ontario
