Click here (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5800137380184825080&q=recycling) to view a video on recycling of cel phones. Isn't time that we started to more actively recycle or reuse electronic goods across Ontario?

Cell phones especially for the youth are somewhat unnecessary to own. And they are the ones that will be consuming most of them over the next 20 years when the amount doubles to 4 billion devices.

In fact; most do not need them.

Personally; I survived quite well without one and would not want one, unless I had a business or some work related operational need.

People with cell phones (especially the teen's) are a waste of time & money, and generally used inconsiderate & irresponsibly and are a down right a reflection of our over consumptive and immediate responsive mentality.

That is the essence of the problem. Also when driving they are a dangerous distration and should be banned.

Recycling sure - there are many organisations that do so.

They end up refurbishing and or/shipping to third world countries.

OK - if people that do not have a telephone system/network like ours needs them for emergencies, a life line or a health related use fine.

But, we should likely like most responsible citizens - consider seriously before allowing our children to "consume" one or more - plastic/electronic device.

Kingston's Interval House collects old cell phones. No matter how old or whether they work or not. I have also seen a box to collect old cell phones at the RMC Recreational Centre in the main foyer.:)

Video monitors contain lead, and there may be hazardous pcb material in some computer CPU's. I heard somewhere that there was a local dropoff for these items. Does anyone know more about this?

Two Options, Not sure if either is still viable:

I had some dealings with a company out of Sharbot Lake, its startup had been assited by a government grant/loan, to recycle computer parts, it may be defunct now. FEWR - Frontenac Electronic Waste Recovery 613-279-1005.

Second, a guy in kingston had started a small biz to do this, I had a sheet he had left with a local computer store, unfortunetly I seem to have recycled that myself, but a call to some of the local computer shops with competent staff would probably yield a name & number ( Maybe, KCP, Computer Depot, Redwing, Bytewise come to mind)

On 10/12/2006, I was notified by FEWR that they were in the process of closing their operation down, so they are no longer taking e-waste..
Their website might still be active at www.landolakes.ca (http://www.landolakes.ca)
