As the federal election moves into full swing we look at the urban policies of the various parties.

What party will best represent urban Canada in the next Parliament?

It is surprising to see how the federal parties have rolled out so few urban policies to date. It looks like we will have to wait until January for major new urban policy announcements from the various parties. Interestingly, the Green Pary seems to have virtually no urban policies that are not simply related to the environment.

The best urban policy for the federal government is none at all. Municipalities are creatures of the province, not the Federal government.

Reduce the size and scope of the federal government with a corresponding reduction in taxation levels. Reductions in federal taxation in conjuction with increased powers to municipalities to levy taxes is the most responsible and accountable road to follow.
